What is a photojournalist?

A photojournalist is a journalist who presents a story primarily through the use of photographs.

Who is your chosen photojournalist?
their wo
For my photojournalism project I chose the photojournalist, Henri Cartier-Bresson. The reason I chose him was because he has travelled most of the world and he was alive through most of the major 20th century events so he has seen alot.

What stands out about their work?

I think what stands out most about Cartier-Bresson's is the fact that in most of his photographs there are people in it and they are usually the focus of attention on his photographs.

What do you think about their work?

I do find Cartier-Bresson's work interresting. What I find most interesting about his work is his decisive moment photographs the way he captured the man just before he hit the puddle is brilliant.

Describe 3 of their photographs?

One of his photographs is of man jumping over a puddle and it was captured just before he hit the puddle. The photograph was titled the decisive moment. Another one of his photographs is titled hyeres and it shows a person cycling by past some stairs and bresson is a the top of the stairs and he waited for something to come by and he got what he wanted. Anoother photograph of his is entitled Harlem 1947 and it shows 2 black men standing around.

Do you think they are important photographs?

I do believe the decisive moment photograph is important as it can inspire other photojournalists. It can do this as cartier-bresson didn't ask the man to jump other the puddle he saw something and stuck his camera through a gate.

What have you done so far?

So far I have finished my resaerch about my photojournalist. I am still collecting photographs because it is difficult to find the title and date for them. I am half way through my script and I have done my music.

What research methods have you used?

Mostly I have used the internet but I have used books while looking for photographs.

What books/websites have you found useful?

The websites that I have found useful are the cartier-bresson foundation page because it gives a brief biography of him. The book I used was called the europeans. It was useful as it had lots of photographs including the title and the date.

What are your thoughts about what you have learnt about your chosen photojournalist?

Well I believe I have learnt alot about Cartier-Bresson in such a short time. Such as where he has been across the world and where he has had his exhibits.

Have you encountered any difficulties?

Well the thing I am finding most difficult is looking for photographs with the title and date and I haven't overcome this difficulty yet.

How do you feel the different elements of your work are fitting togehter?

Well I feel the music is ftting really well with the images and the narration but I am finding it difficult to fit the images to the narration.

Have you watched anything to inspire you?

Well I have watched two documentaries on Cartier-Bresson. One was called the impassioned eye which was introduced in 2006 and the other one was called the genius of photography.

How can you incoporate any inspiration into your own work?

I can incoporate some inspiration such as in the impassioned eye there was a slow piano music played in the background and that made me think why not use a qiuet sounding piano so the narration can be heard.

Has it made you consider something you need to do that you didn't think about before?

It hasn't made me consider much just the music that's all.

Discuss what you still have left to do?

Well I need to complete my script and to complete that I am taking the most important bits out of the research and using it in the script. I also need to finish collecting images and to collect these I am going to have to scan some into a computer.
